Susana Paixão

She has a PhD in Geography and a master’s degree in Environmental Education from the University of Coimbra. Specialist in Environmental Health, with a degree in Environmental Health and a bachelor’s degree in Hygiene and Environmental Health from the Coimbra Health School at the Polytechnic of Coimbra – Portugal.

She has been President of the International Federation for Environmental Health since October 2020 and President of the Portuguese Society for Environmental Health. She is a member of the Coordinating Council of the Observatory of the Academic Network of Health Sciences of Lusofonia (RACS). She is coordinator of the Urban Health Group form the Institute of Applied Research (i2A) of the Polytechnic of Coimbra and a researcher at the Center for Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT). She is also a member of the Portuguese chapter of Women in Global Health

She started her activity as a visiting professor at ESTeSC-IPC in the Department of Environmental Health in 1999 and has been a career professor since 2007. She is currently a Coordinator Professor in the same Department.

She worked as an Environmental Health officer in the Waste Department of the Regional Directorate for the Environment of the Center of Portugal from 1997 to 2003 and in the Department of Public Health of the Health Center of Pombal from 2003 to 2007. She has vast experience in national and international contexts, collaborating with several scientific journals and giving lectures on various topics of Environmental Health.
